Washi Tape

Friday, March 15, 2019

Washi Tape was one of those embellishments that trended for a long time.  I have quite an assortment of rolls and now they even sell washi tape booklets.  For this layout, I found a Dear Lizzy washi tape book at Tuesday Morning that came from her Lovely Day collection.  I did some ink smooshing using some distress inks.  Then, I laid the washi down as a base on top.

I added a 3.5x5 photo to the center and embellished the page.  This collection has mermaids in it and since this was a page about water and swimming, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to use one.

I framed the entire layout using a piece of rainbow design paper I had in my stash that is from an older Dear Lizzy collection.  I did a little sewing as well to add a dark outline to the border.

I love how bright and fun this one turned out and it all started with washi tape.  Happy Scrapping!

Scraplift Remix: Triangle

Saturday, March 9, 2019

Hi Guys! It's time for another scraplift.  I saw this layout on pinterest and unfortunately the original link is not working, but here is a picture of the inspiration layout.

This layout is completely artsy and I love all of the textures it has, but my favorite part by far is the triangle.  I used my February Hipkit to make my own take on this layout.

I did some ink smooshing on the background and added the floral paper as the triangle.  I loved the pattern on this paper and so I did not embellish quite as heavily as the inspiration layout so that you could see some of it.

I did lots of layering underneath the photo to add pops of color and draw the eye to the picture.  I also felt it needed something horizontally across the page, so I used a Maggie Holmes stamp from the Willow Lane collection to accomplish this.

I don't often do this, but this time I left the threads long on the sewing.  I felt doing so added the texture my layout was missing from the inspiration layout.  Really pleased with how this one turned out.  Happy Scrapping!

Inspired by an Embellishment

Thursday, February 21, 2019

There are times I am sifting through a dye cut pack and see an image that speaks to me.  It either reminds me of a photo that "would be perfect" or a journaling story I would like to tell using that embellishment.  Well, in the case of this layout it was these adorable ice cream and popsicle images.  I recalled an instance last year when we went to Disney World for my youngest's 3rd birthday.  We went and got ice cream because it was incredibly hot, nearing 90 degrees.  It was so hot in fact, our ice cream melted before we even unwrapped them.

I happen to have two packs of the Crate Paper Poolside collection die cuts.  So, it gave me the opportunity to use duplication as a way to add interest to the page.  I also did some mixed media on a couple of water color tags using the smooshing technique and some distress inks.

I used some sewing in a pretty aqua thread to add an additional texture to the layout.

I love how bright and cheerful this layout is.  Look in your stash and get inspired by an embellishment in it!  If you want to see a process video of how I created this layout click here. Happy scrapping!
