Sewing to add interest

Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Do you ever make a layout and feel the background just needs a little something?  Texture? Color? I run into to this sometimes and although my go to tends to be added paint or ink, this time I did a little something different.

On this layout, I took two colors of thread, a blush and a yellow and sewed a grid in the background.  I just love the way that this turned out.  I used a 6x6 paperpad to pick coordinating colors to back the silhouette flower cuts with.

All of the white leaves are from another project and I had some leftover.  I am glad I saved them because they matched the floral design of this layout perfectly.

I only adhered the edge of each leaf stem so that they would stay fluffy and dimensional on the page.  Then, I finished it off with some white paint splatter.  I love the way it turned out!  Happy Scrapping!

30 minute or less layouts

Sunday, March 17, 2019

Sometimes I want to get crafty, but I just have limited time.  When this happens, I typically plan a layout that is simple in design and technique.  Here is a layout I made in under 30 minutes using the idea to coordinate 4 stripes of acrylic paint with the teacup embellishments.

I ran my design paper through my large scale printer to add my journaling centered on top of the photo.  I knew I wanted to tell the story of my oldest daughter Reagan's first time going on the teacups at Disney World.  I then used acrylic paint and a one inch brush to paint a few strokes of each color.  I added a few coordinating embellishments to each brushstroke.

This is a simple layout, but packs a color punch.  I love the way it turned out...and it only took a half hour.  Don't let time be a barrier to getting creative.  Happy Scrapping!

Scraplift Remix: Triangle

Saturday, March 9, 2019

Hi Guys! It's time for another scraplift.  I saw this layout on pinterest and unfortunately the original link is not working, but here is a picture of the inspiration layout.

This layout is completely artsy and I love all of the textures it has, but my favorite part by far is the triangle.  I used my February Hipkit to make my own take on this layout.

I did some ink smooshing on the background and added the floral paper as the triangle.  I loved the pattern on this paper and so I did not embellish quite as heavily as the inspiration layout so that you could see some of it.

I did lots of layering underneath the photo to add pops of color and draw the eye to the picture.  I also felt it needed something horizontally across the page, so I used a Maggie Holmes stamp from the Willow Lane collection to accomplish this.

I don't often do this, but this time I left the threads long on the sewing.  I felt doing so added the texture my layout was missing from the inspiration layout.  Really pleased with how this one turned out.  Happy Scrapping!

Merging Two Loves

Monday, February 25, 2019

Hi! My name is Nicole and I read A LOT.  I decided to make a layout to address my love for books and the great reading year I had in 2018.

I used a Paige Evans cut file and had my Silhouette perforate the paper rather than cut.  Then, I used some embroidering floss to sew the book outlines.  I used a good deal Maggie Holmes Storyteller collection to embellish the page.

Then, I made the picture into a pocket and added some Project Life cards inside.  One lists my top 5 favorite books of 2018.  Have you ever documented a hobby on a scrapbook layout?  Happy Scrapping
