Using Dies on Layouts

Friday, March 29, 2019

I have been picking up some really adorable dies at Tuesday Morning for $5 or less.  The problem is I put them away and forget to pull them out when I am making layouts.  This month's Hip Kit had a lot of embellishments that had a transportation or explore theme.  I knew I wanted to make a layout related to pictures of my kids I had taken in various modes of transportation.

I got these arrow dies that also emboss at one of those trips to Tuesday Morning.  I cut them out using some of the scraps of paper I had leftover from previous layouts I made with my kit.

I used them to make a pattern up and down the page.  Then, I scattered different elements that were modes of transportation .  I added a few splatter of black ink and called this layout done.  I love the way it turned out.

Hi everyone!  Today, I felt like making a card, but needed a little inspirational "push."  Sometimes when I am in a rut, I'll refer to my Pinterest board that has different color combos on it.  If you are interested in following me on Pinterest or any of my crafty boards, you can click on the icon to the right of this post.

I used a lot of MFT stamps products on this card.  I first die cut and stamped out my ice cream cone.  I used a baby wipe to clear some of the color off of the center of the ice cream to add that little highlight.  I love the bright yellow polka dot background on the dark teal cardstock.  It really makes it pop!

I added Wink of Stella in clear all over the top of the ice cream to make it sparkle.  I felt like the card needed some additional sparkly elsewhere to balance it out, so I die cut the tag that the ice cream sits on in silver glitter paper.  I added some off kilter vellum over it to die down the brightness.  As a finishing touch, I put glossy accents over the cherry.

I added a few Hero Arts bling to add some dimension and the card was done!  Hope you enjoyed.

Organizing my wafer dies...

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Hi Guys!

My scrap room is in MAJOR disarray!  I have DT projects going on in one area, a paid album job in another area, and stuff ready for filming on my desk.  In the midst of all of this craziness, I decided to change the way I store my wafer dies.  Wafer dies are the flat dies that many manufacturers make these days.  Some popular companies that I absolutely love include MFT stamps, memory box, and paper trey ink.

I used to organize mine in a 12x12 album using magnetic sheets.  As my collection grew, the album became too heavy and cumbersome to flip through.  Then I saw a video by Jennifer Mcguire Ink on how she stores her dies and loved the idea.

I've only begun the process of transitioning my dies to their new home, but here's what I've accomplished so far.

First, I cut cheap white cardstock I purchased at Joanns to fit inside of these memorex CD cases I picked up at Office Depot.

Then, I moved my dies still attached to their magnetic sheets into each memorex case.  I am still awaiting the larger size pockets from Avery Elle to get delivered so I can do all of the larger dies you see in the left side of the below container.

I'll keep you posted with my progress!  --Nicole
